LAERSKOOL HENDRIK LOUW
Hendrik Louw Primary is one of the earliest formed primary schools in South Africa dating as far back as 1880. Before 1882 the small D.R. congregation of the Strand had no church of their own. They were allowed to share the old Wesleyan church which stood in the lower Main Road, more or less on the spot where the windows of Messrs Friedman and Cohen now display men’s clothing. Historical Records suggests this to have been our first school. Mrs Bergsteedt was the teacher, taking up her post in 1880. This building under thatch roof was built in 1851 and demolished in 1912.
Hendrik Louw survived World War 1 and World War 2. Some clips out of their Prestigious History.

There must be something in the water of Strand as you will never find a small pack of forwards when you come against Hendrik Louw. Not only are they fierce but they possess a quality that is rare within primary schools and that is that they are street smart. They are clever rugby players as they grow up playing rugby in strand on either hard fields or the beach. Playing against Hendrik Louw is like facing Mike Tyson in the ring, they can either dominate with their forwards or they can run in tries with their backs from anywhere on the field. They always have speed to burn and they will test your structures. They are hard and like mike Tyson they love confrontation on the field. They possess a big pack for 2019 and will be aiming to be crown number 1 in the helderberg primary schools. Never write off a Hendrik Louw Rugby Team, you do so at your peril.
